Echuca Moama is a perfect destination for a weekend of nature based attractions and outdoor activities!

1. Experience Echuca Moama on a Stand Up Paddle Board

If you’re an early bird and want to pack in a full day of activities, then choose a sunrise paddle on the Murray River.  Whatever the time of day, this activity is guaranteed fun.  We personally love an early evening paddle with the unique sounds of the cockatoos flying home to their evening roost.

2. Walking and Cycling Activities

The Banuyle State Forest in Echuca is a great place for a walk or a bike ride.  Grab a map from the Echuca Visitor Information Centre – or look online. You can take numerous short walks, or a very long walk and enjoy the bush scenery, river tracks and river views.

3. Echuca Scenic Cycling Tour

Book a Green Pedal E-Bike Tour and discover the Echuca Scenic Trail, a 5km walking or cycling track, with 360 degree nature views.  See where the Campaspe and Murray Rivers meet.  If you enjoy bird watching you won’t be disappointed. Occasionally you will spot a kangaroo or two in the evening.  The Scenic Trail begins near the new Echuca Moama bridge, and just near the Victoria Park Boat Ramp.  Green Pedal Bike Tours leave from Murray Esplanade Echuca.

4. Relax and unwind at Echuca Aquatic Reserve

This beautiful park is located just near the Visitor Information Centre and is the home of the multi award winning Riverboats Music Festival.  It’s a great place to relax, especially in the evening.  Enjoy the bird life and the sounds of nature.  Grab a coffee, your book and a picnic rug.  Relax by the lagoon and enjoy!

5. Cycle to Moama Cafes and Wineries

If you have a bike with you, or if you don’t, hire a Green Pedal standard bike or E-Bike and take a ride to Moama.  Here you can enjoy the river views from Moama Wharf and Moama Beach, and then cycle out to Three Black Sheep and St Anne’s Winery.  Three Black Sheep have fabulous outdoor (and indoor dining) and at St Anne’s you can sit and relax on the grass while you enjoy their complimentary wine tasting or purchase a delightful platter.   If you’re keen for another winery, Morrison’s is nearby.  They also have a fabulous outdoor deck, with Murray River views.  So many options!

6. Billabong Ranch has fun outdoor activities on offer

If you’d like to spend some time on horseback, you can choose from a  1 Hour Bush & Creek Trail Ride, 2hr  Goulburn River Ride  or a 3 Hour Goulburn & Murray River Ride.  What a great way to experience the Murray! Suitable for children and adults.

7. Picnic by the river

If you’re after a sandy spot, Moama Beach is a great choice for a picnic or BBQ.  Chinamen’s Bend is also a popular spot, particularly with the locals – this is where the Stand Up Paddle board tours leave from.

There are numerous beautiful places by the river where you can have a picnic.  And, if you need a blanket, the Visitor Information Centre has a box of pre-loved blankets for sale (supporting to a fantastic local charity).  There are also several local cafes that will put together a fabulous picnic platter – choose from the Fuzion cafe, Hungry Goat and the Hammond Providore in Moama.

8. Canoe the Murray

You’ll feel invigorated after a canoe on the Murray.  The canoe hire is located near the Echuca Boat ramp, behind the NRMA caravan park.  Drive to the end of High Street, turn left and then immediately right.  Follow the road to the river. The Canoe Hire operator also has a range of boat hire options.

9. Go Fishing

Drop a line in, and you might be surprised what you catch.  Check out the fishing regulations and make sure you have a licence.  There are some big ones to be caught!

10. Sample Local Produce

The Echuca Farmers market is held on the 1st and 3rd Saturday’s of every month.  You will usually find the market near the Echuca Visitor Information Centre in Heygarth Street, but currently (January 2023) it has been relocated to Alton Reserve in Hare Street Echuca.  The market has a vast array of local produce – including jams, honey, sweet treats, vegies, meat, olives and olive oil, flowers and more.

Some of the stall holders are also found at the Moama Market, usually held on Sundays at the Moama Sound Shell (but currently it is being held in Perricoota Road just near the Adventure playpark).  This is a big general market, and a great way to spend a relaxing morning.  Check the Moama Market website for market dates.
